A LINCS Study Circle on Teaching English Pronunciation

Hello colleagues, We have revised the start date for the LINCS 3-session synchronous study circle on Teaching English Pronunciation facilitated by Andrea Echelberger. Adult ESL teachers who join the study circle will learn about evidence-based methods for teaching pronunciation and then try out these techniques with English learners in their classrooms. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss their implementation with colleagues and the facilitator. during the live sessions as well as in an online community devoted exclusively to study circle participants.

The study circle live sessions will take place on the following dates:

  • February 23 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm
  • March 31 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm
  • April 27  from 3:00 to 5:00 pm

We are offering an additional OVERVIEW session on Tuesday, January 26 at 3:00 pm ET in which Andrea will offer a quick summary of the study circle content and lay out the expectations for participation. Study circle particpiants will be expected to attend all three live sessions and engage in a micro group community here on LINCS that will be exclusive to those who engage in the study circle.

Andrea Echelberger's Bio: 

Andrea Echelberger is the ESL Training Coordinator at the Minnesota Literacy Council where she conducts professional development trainings and develops resources for teachers and ESL volunteer tutors throughout Minnesota and surrounding states. She also works as an adjunct professor with the Hamline University TEFL program.

Before she became a professional trainer, Andrea spent ten years working with refugees and immigrants from around the world in St. Paul, Minnesota. She also served as an English Language Fellow for two years in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.  Andrea holds a MA in ESL from Hamline University and an ABE Teaching License from the University of Minnesota.

Throughout her time as an English language teacher and educator, Andrea has researched pronunciation and led extensive professional development on the topic, including the development of the Pronunciation Study Circle Facilitator’s Guide in partnership with ATLAS and Hamline University in 2017, leading the session Integrating Pronunciation into the ESL Classroom at COABE
