HyperDocs for adult basic skills education -- have you made one? Would you like to make one?

Integrating Technology Colleagues,

Last week I learned about HyperDocs, and I am excited about the possibilities for them in adult basic skills (including ESL/ESOL) education.  A HyperDoc is a Google Doc that is designed as a lesson using multimedia, in an engaging, colorful format, with activities, audio, video, assessment. Think of it as a "lesson plan" for adult learners, or for professional development for teachers of adult learners. I learned about this in a webinar I was presenting on the Media Library of Teaching Skills (MLoTS) to colleagues in Texas from a participant in the webinar, Ashly Winkle. Since then I have learned that other colleagues have made or want to make Hyperdocs for the teachers or adult learners they work with.

Have you made a HyperDoc? Would you like to make one? Do you want to learn more about making them and how they can be used?  If you have made one and can share it please let us know, and gives us a link to it.

Hi Leecy. Here is a copy of the video. I plan on doing a part two within the next month. Keep in mind, I did have some technical issues during the presentation (welcome to technology):

To create a live YouTube presentation, you just go to this link, and set a date. Once it's time, you go to the link and it will allow you to broadcast using Google Hangouts.

With your iphone, you should just be able to click on the link. I am not sure if that answers your question on that or not, but Iphones are very similar to regular computers and/or tablets.

Wonderful, Ashly! I'll follow your link. I did watch your presentation. Much appreciated! Tech glitches are part of using technology to create communities of like minds, which your are helping to create. Live interactions among educators who are learning all of the time show that we are lifelong learners sharing what we know. We don't need to be seamless! We are interacting!  Let's just keep talking! :))))  Leecy

LINCS CoP Colleagues,

This discussion that began in July, 2017 has continued through the year and, I hope, will also continue in 2018.

  • Have you tried making a HyperDoc? If so, could you tell us about the experience making it and, if you have done this, using it with students?
  • Do you have questions about making or using HyperDocs?
  • Do you now regularly use HyperDocs and, if so, how do you, and how do your students like them?
  • Are you an adult education professional development provider who uses HyperDocs with teachers in your courses, workshops or PD projects?
  • What do you see as the advantages of using HyperDocs compared with other kinds of lesson plan formats?
  • What other thoughts do you have about using HyperDocs?
