Resources for Teaching Pronunciation

Hello colleagues, An essential aspect of teaching English is supporting learners to be comprehensible when speaking. The goal is never about native-like pronunciation.

What instructional strategies have you found helpful toward this goal? What questions do you have about teaching pronunciation?

Our wonderful colleagues in Minnesota have created a YouTube channel featuring a number of videos focused on teaching pronunciation. The videos highlight strategies that can be effective when teaching in-person or remotely. The videos, many of which are 25 mins or so, include:

  • Pronunciation Tips for Literacy-Level Classrooms
  • Teaching Word Stress
  • Teaching Intonation
  • Final Consonant Articulation

Check out the YouTube channel to find many more relevant topics! Let us know what is working for you and what questions you have about teaching pronunciation.

Cheers, Susan Finn Miller
