Hello colleagues, I want to alert you to some wonderful instructional materials that are now available in the LINCS collection through the Teaching the Skills That Matter initative.
"The Teaching the Skills That Matter in Adult Education project (TSTM) trains teachers to integrate the skills that matter to adult students using approaches that work across critical content areas: civics education, financial literacy, health literacy, workforce preparation and digital literacy. Using the project's tools and training, adult education teachers can teach the transferable skills students need in these critical contexts."
The 9 target skills include the following:
- Adaptability & willingness to learn
- Critical thinking
- Interpersonal skills
- Navigating systems
- Problem solving
- Processing & analyzing information
- Respecting differences & diversity
Integrated and contextualized instruction as well as project- and problem-based instruction are the approaches that are featured in the TSTM toolkit.
Check out these materials and let us know what stands out to you and how you might implement the lesson plans that are designed to teach the skills that matter!
Take care, Susan Finn Miller
