New Courses: Using Open Educational Resources

If you are an adult educator, you probably teach some math and science along with reading and writing among your learners. Hopefully, there is a lot of cross-pollination happening among these instructional areas! These two new courses will have you practice searching for valuable Open Educational Resources (OER) and implementing OER among students who are guided into modifying OER as part of their learning experiences. See the Announcement below.

Announcement: New Courses: Using Open Educational Resources for Math or Science created by LINCS_Communications

The LINCS Professional Development Center is offering two virtually facilitated, freely available courses on Open Educational Resources (OER) for math or science. Each course is facilitated by highly experienced LINCS Facilitators.  Registration is limited to 15 participants for each course.

All participants are required to complete a 3.5 hour prerequisite course, Open Your Classroom with Open Educational Resources, and submit their Certificate of Completion to Kaye Beall at pdcenter@lincs.ed.gov before completing the registration process. Participants will be enrolled on a first-come, first-served basis for both of the following courses:

Open Science-Open Resources: Engage Adult Learners for 21st Century Skills (July 30–October 1)

Open Math-Open Resources: Engage Adult Learners for 21st Century Skills (July 30–October 1)

These courses will help instructors find quality OER’s for the adult education classroom, evaluate and assess OER effectiveness in meeting learning objectives, and provide instructors with ideas and resources for instructional strategies to introduce and engage adult learners learning either math or science.

Courses are accessible through the LINCS Learning Portal. Each OER course lasts eight weeks, and enrollees should allot 3–5 hours for weekly engagement.

Please contact pdcenter@lincs.ed.gov with any questions.

Many thanks!
