Using LINCS Search

Hello LINCS Colleagues,

You can search LINCS for: members, discussions, bulletins, community announcements, documents, lesson plans, and more. See the small LINCS Search window (that has a magnifying glass icon) in the upper right-hand corner of this page. You can type in your search term(s) there or by using this link: https://community.lincs.ed.gov/search/node .

There's also an Advanced Search feature (in the blue bar at the top of the Discussions page for that group) that allows you to choose up to three search filters:

  • Containing any of the words....
  • Containing the phrase....
  • Containing none of the words....

How can you find a recent discussion that you skimmed, but now want to read carefully?  One way is to search LINCS discussions using words or phrases, and/or a year in which the discussion took place, and/or the name of the author, and/or by using possible tags.

How can you use the LINCS Search feature to learn if there have been discussions on a particular topic in the LINCS groups?  For example, suppose you are interested to learn if "blended learning" has been discussed in any of the LINCS groups. Type "blended" In the LINCS search window. You should see many pages of links to blended learning discussions.  If you want to narrow your search, type a phrase with quotation marks around it, for example "blended learning" and if you're interested in only getting posts and replies on blended learning in 2019, type "blended learning" 2019. That should narrow it down nicely.

Using LINCS Search, suppose you have found a discussion that took place months or years ago and you want to add a reply now. That's great! Your reply will go immediately to members of the group(s) in which the discussion took place who have signed up to have posts and replies delivered to their email. Your reply will also be posted on the discussion web page with a "New" flag so that others may notice it. They may reply, too, and so you have brought the discussion back to life!
