What Does Digital Equity Look Like in Your Classroom? Have You Tried Plickers?

Digital equity is a constant struggle we face in education. I envision a digitally equitable classroom as one which allows all students to have access to devices, internet connection, digital information, and support from digitally literate teachers. While there are so many amazing EdTech tools available to us, not all tools are created equal when it comes to addressing digital equity. The first one that comes to mind for me, in the face to face environment anyhow, is Plickers. Developed in 2015, Plickers is a free assessment tool requiring no student devices! The students only need codes, which Plickers provides up to 63 for  free! When a question appears on the screen from the Plickers dashboard, students hold their code card up, with the answer to the question at the top of the card. From there, the teacher scans the room with their device (compatible  with both Android and iOS). The app recognizes the  codes, and then captures and records the students’ responses. Teachers immediately know who answered correctly, and who did not. And now, Plickers offers remote learning and Hyflex model options as well!
