National College Access Network 2014 Conference

The 2014 National College Access Network (NCAN) Conference is scheduled for September 15 - 17, 2014 in Phoenix, AZ.

"NCAN's Mission -Our mission is to build, strengthen, and empower communities committed to college access and success so that all students, especially those underrepresented in postsecondary education, can achieve their educational dreams.

The conference announcement describes the following topic areas:

We are excited to be able to offer more than 60 different workshop sessions this year that will focus on the following areas:

  • College Access and Readiness for All: admissions and financial aid advising; mentoring; tutoring; early awareness; test preparation; family engagement; “non-traditional” students; non-cognitive skills; working with diverse populations; addressing inequity in education.
  • Student Success in Higher Education: retaining students; increasing graduation rates; enrollment management; non-cognitive skills; working with diverse populations; addressing inequity in education.
  • Using Technology to Enhance Student Outcomes: using social media to communicate with students and families; data tracking and use; creating new apps for more efficient program operations.

  • Collective Impact and Networks: college access and success networks; cultivating business partners; working with community-based, higher education and/or K-12 school systems; working collectively to impact student success.
  • 21st Century Skills and Workforce Readiness: career readiness; gainful employment; career guidance and exploration; aligning program efforts with emerging labor market needs; forecasting labor trends.
  • Program Management and Leadership: fundraising; grant writing; increasing support from individual and foundation donors; financial management and budgeting; board development; branding/communications; management and supervisory skills; succession planning."
