The Office of Correctional Education in the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education (OCTAE) invites you to participate in the Correctional Education Professional Learning Series. This series focuses on delivering relevant, engaging, and innovative experiences where participants learn about strategies, techniques, initiatives, and programs that advance the educational opportunities and outcomes of confined, incarcerated, and justice-involved individuals. The series will include diverse sessions that discuss existing and emerging policies, practices, and resources that provide incarcerated and justice-involved individuals with advanced correctional education opportunities that offer seamless transition processes to postsecondary education or training.
The second webinar in the Professional Learning Series will be held on Thursday, September 12th 1:00 pm ET. It will focus on How Mountain-West Congressional Earmark Programs are Removing Barriers to Correctional Education.
Education can be a powerful tool for rehabilitation, reducing recidivism, and successful reintegration into society for justice-impacted populations. However, working to provide educational programming and resources within these spaces can be complex and challenging. This webinar will explore these complexities through the programs offered by Idaho’s TRIO Educational Opportunity Center, which has collaborated with county jails, alternative sentencing programs, probation and parole, and state prisons for over 20 years. Understanding these unique environments is essential to creating effective programming with the hope of supporting educational access for justice-impacted communities.
