August 23 Family Literacy All Day Discussion with Dr. Esther Prins and Emily Wolfe

Hi Everyone, On August 23, three LINCS community groups will host a one-day asynchronous discussion with Dr. Esther Prins and Emily Wolfe of Penn State University. We have the unique opportunity to hear from both a family literacy teacher and noted researcher. They will discuss principles for working with families with low incomes, effective strategies for supporting parents’ own education and their involvement in children’s learning and education, and how family literacy instruction can be adapted to remote/online settings. Please bring your questions and comments for the discussion that will last throughout the day! Have a question about family literacy? Please respond, and we will see that it gets answered! Looking forward to August 23rd, Steve Schmidt, Moderator LINCS Reading and Writing Group

Hi Everyone,

The long-awaited family literacy event is coming up soon on August 23! No registration is necessary. This will be a day-long asynchronous discussion beginning around 7:30 AM ET and lasting throughout the day.

Emily Wolfe, the Adult Education & Family Literacy Services Coordinator at Penn State University, will be our guest. She has been working in the family literacy field for the past 20 years as an adult education & family literacy services coordinator, America Reads coordinator, and professional development specialist in family literacy.

She will discuss principles for working with families with low incomes, effective strategies for supporting parents’ own education and their involvement in children’s learning and education, and how family literacy instruction can be adapted to remote/online settings.

Unfortunately, Dr. Esther Prins will be unable to join us for the discussion.

Login throughout the day to ask questions and contribute to the discussion!

Thanks in advance for your participation,

Steve Schmidt, Moderator
