Do you have tips for engaging learners in a book study? Ever tried Literature Circles?

Hello colleagues, I'm planning to devote the last three or four weeks of class this spring to engaging learners in a book study.  We'll read the book Stolen Into Slavery based on the life of Solomon Northup who wrote the memoir 12 Years a Slave that was also made into a popular film by the same name.

I'd love to hear tips from teachers who have engaged learners in a book study. How did you structure this for the class? How did you support learners to keep reading? Has anyone tried Literature Circles with a teacher-selected book? I'll be doing this remotely, so if anyone has tips to add about facilitating a book study online, I'd love to hear them.

Thanks for any tips you can share!

Cheers, Susan Finn Miller
