Hi Everyone,
Greetings as we bid goodbye to July and welcome in August! Here are some July highlights and things to look forward to this month.
July Highlights
- July’s biggest event was our three-day conversation with renowned writing expert Dr. Mary Ann Corley. The Day 1 discussion was about teaching pre-writing skills. Day 2’s conversation centered around collaborative writing. The last day’s discourse was about teaching contextualized grammar. Find all the resources for the discussion HERE. Your continued thoughts are welcome!
- The COABE Conference dominated the first two weeks in July. I highlighted Week 1 workshops about reading and writing as well as those during Week 2. For COABE members who registered for the conference, discussion recordings will be available for the next six months.
- Community friend Susan Jones brought a fantastic free resource to our attention. Drabbles, 100 word stories inspired by traditional folk tales, are available HERE.
We also had a wonderful coffee break along with the Teaching and Learning CoP on July 28th. I will be posting a discussion summary and link to the video and chat transcript later this week.
August Awaitings
I am looking forward to a discussion about helping students write effective extended response claims that we will have with Susan Pittman, trainer with the GED® Testing Service, on August 27th. Please post any questions that you would like Susan to answer about the GED® Extended Response.
Pun of the Month
I’m reading a book about anti-gravity. It’s impossible to put down!
Have an Awe-Inspiring August,
Steve
