Hi Everyone,

On June 24th, our community was privileged to have Dr. John Sabatini and his colleagues Halle Smith and John Hollander conduct a live event about two free resources we can use with our adult basic education students:

1. AutoTutor for Auto Reading Comprehension (ARC). This innovative system uses adaptive trialogues to improve adult learners reading comprehension skills. Visit http://arcweb.us/ to request a teacher account that will allow you to use AutoTutor with your students.

2. Study Aid and Reading Assessment (SARA) This online diagnostic system analyzes adult learners’ reading skills and can be used for placement and progress monitoring. After completion, a tailored instructional plan can be created for each reading skill assessed. SARA contains six brief subtests:

  • Word recognition and decoding
  • Vocabulary
  • Morphology
  • Sentence processing
  • Reading efficiency
  • Reading comprehension

To find out more information about SARA or to use it with your students, click here. You can also email the team at: read.autotutor@gmail.com

For those who attended the live event, please share a one sentence reaction.

Thanks in advance,
