May is Trauma Awareness Month

Hi Everyone,

May is trauma awareness month.

I’ve heard trauma described as both Big T and little t trauma. Big T represents major trauma, like sexual abuse or death of a loved one. Little t trauma may mean the ending of relationship, death of a pet, or a long-term emotional lack. Both trauma types and the stress of daily living can wreak havoc on our mental health.

Resources are available to help. PANDA, Minnesota ABE’s Physical and Nonapparent Disability Assistance, created a printable mental health tip sheet for teachers and students that contains wonderful guidance.

How do you help students in your program with their mental health needs?

Thanks for your thoughts,
