Camelback Ventures – Lumina Foundation Challenge: Shaping the Next Frontier in Postsecondary Education

Challenge Overview

In the last generation we have witnessed profound changes to K-12 education that have put the students at the center of learning. The results are new technologies, innovations and school models that seek to meet students where they are at academically, physically and emotionally.

Only recently has a serious discussion begun about how to meet the diverse needs of postsecondary students. This diverse world includes traditional college students, first-generation, returning adult learners and independent students among others. These students need educational opportunities that allow them to re-skill, gain real-world experience, provide mentorship, learn at their own pace, earn valuable credentials and access meaningful feedback in physical (or virtual) spaces that suit their lives.  Camelback Ventures seeks entrepreneur-driven ideas for new technologies and models to serve diverse postsecondary students.

This is a special Ideation Challenge, which has the following unique features:

  • There is a guaranteed award.  The awards will be paid to the best submission(s) as solely determined by the Seeker. The total payout will be $10,000, with at least one award being no smaller than $5,000 and no award being smaller than $2,000.
  • The three finalists of this Challenge will be given a unique opportunity to attend and present their ideas to a distinguished panel at Lumina Challenge: Camelback Edition Shark Tank in New York City on January 25, 2016 for an invitation to become a 2016 Camelback Fellow and receive the final monetary award. This includes a travel stipend and coaching by a Camelback Team Member/Alumni in preparation for the event.
  • Submission forwarding occurs during the Challenge.  Since submissions will be forwarded to the Seeker throughout the Challenge, please make sure you upload only a finished proposal. You can submit an updated version of your proposal only as a new submission. If you submit an updated version of your proposal, please clearly indicate the new items and/or edits compared to your previous submission. This will allow the Seeker to quickly find the new information and determine how it improves your submission.
  • The Solvers are not required to transfer exclusive intellectual property rights to the Seeker.  Rather, by submitting a proposal, the Solver grants to the Seeker a royalty-free, perpetual, and non-exclusive license to use any information included in this proposal, including for promotional purposes.

Submissions to this Challenge must be received by 11:59 PM (US Eastern Time) on December 7, 2015.
