Description: In this one-hour webinar, Dr. Richard Cooper will detail the quantitative concepts and math vocabulary that adult with learning problems often do not understand. Many math teachers assume that learners understand these concepts and terms so they do not realize that these students may have large gaps in their math knowledge. An example is the student who does not understand the concept of odd and even numbers, and thus, thinks that some numbers are “odd” or weird” while others number are” not weird”. Additionally, many students do not understand the meaning of fractions. The presenter will demonstrate how to uncover the misconceptions and provide techniques for increasing learners’ understanding of quantitative concepts and terms.
• Understand the reason why students with learning problems often have limited knowledge of quantitative concepts and vocabulary
• Be able to use techniques to uncover these quantitative knowledge gaps
• Learn techniques to help students fill in some of these math knowledge lacks
About the Presenter
Richard Cooper, Ph.D. is the Founder and Director of the Center for Alternative Learning, an organization providing educational and social support to adults and children who have learning problems. Dr. Cooper is a nationally recognized expert on alternative instructional techniques. He maintains a private practice through which he provides assessment, counseling and tutoring.
