January is National Braille Literacy Month. It is estimated that 700,000 Americans younger than 21 are blind or have serious vision problems, even when wearing glasses. Braille uses a code of up to six dots to facilitate reading and writing. The word “Braille” stems from Louis Braille who became blind from an accident at the age of three.
