National Association of Landscape Professionals Announces Career Pathways Pilot in Select U.S. Cities

National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP) is partnering with The Corps Network to connect entry-level workers with landscape professionals across the country. Corps are locally-based organizations that engage young adults and post-9/11 veterans in work experience to develop in-demand skills.

Pathways to Landscaping Careers, will provide an opportunity for lawn and landscape companies to hire young adults (generally ages 18 - 25) and veterans (up to age 35) for internships or full-time employment. Corps members, many of whom have landscape experience, will be matched with companies in the following metro regions for the Fall 2019/Spring 2020 Pilot:

Atlanta, GA ¡ Austin, TX ¡ Baltimore, MD ¡ Denver, CO ¡ Gulfport, MS ¡ Los Angeles, CA ¡ New York, NY ¡ Philadelphia, PA ¡ Phillipsburg, NJ ¡ Sacramento, CA ¡ Saint Paul, MN ¡ Stockton, CA

Companies utilizing NALP’s  Landscape Management Apprenticeship Program may choose to enroll qualified Corps members in this program upon hire.   Corps members will be actively supported by their Corps even after employment with a landscape contractor is secured, including mentoring, access to career and personal counseling, and workforce-related supportive services.  The application for Fall 2019 can be accessed here.

MIchael,  I am the coordinator for an Adult Education and Literacy Program that is grant funded by the TWC.  Our program is interested in starting an Integrated Education and Training program that is geared toward high demand occupations in Texas.  The IET would involve english language learner teaching. As you may be aware that the community in San Antonio is diverse in languages.  The NALP apprenticeship would be a great opportunity to partner with the lawn and landscape industry in San Antonio Texas.  But looking at your membership there are no NALB members in San Antonio Texas.  I would like to find out how we could get started if possible and if there is an opportunity for us to pilot a class with our program in San Antonio.  I would need step by step on connecting with the right people in the landscaping industry. One thing comes to mind is our City offices, there are alot of city workers performing landscaping .  Please provide advise and or someone that I could connect with to brainstorm and or to get started.

Hi, Marta -

Thanks for your post looking for more information about the National Association of Landscape Professionals Announces Career Pathways Pilot.  On the bottom of the announcement is a contact for the program, Jenn Myers:  jenn@landscapeprofessionals.org . I would reach out to her to see about the options for connecting your community.  It's great to hear about coordinators' working to develop programs that match the need in their communities.  I hope you'll keep us posted on your progress.

Best,

HI Michael,  The week that I sent the post, I viewed the website and made a few calls and sent a couple of emails.  I received a great response from the NALP Director.  She has found employers here in San Antonio that are interested.  We (NALP and ESC-20 AEL ) will be in conversation with them next week to see how we can get this rolling. I will keep you posted as to how it goes.  Thank you for the resource information.  Marsha Ellis
