Webinars on Federal Career Pathways for Counselors

The U.S Office of Personnel Management is offering two free webinars for Career Services professionals at colleges and universities in 2017.  These sessions will give practical direction and guidance on Federal hiring and related topics that you can share with your students and alumni.  These sessions are not intended for students but rather for Career Services professionals.

The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) in Washington, DC is the Federal agency that administers Human Resources policy in the Federal Government, and promotes innovative and coordinated approaches to recruiting and hiring students and recent graduates into the Federal Government.

Each webinar is scheduled for one hour, including Q&A. There is no cost for the webinars, which are delivered via a link to Adobe Connect. You can register for each webinar via the Eventbrite link provided for each session. There is no separate phone line as audio will be through your laptop/desktop speakers. You will receive the link when you register. Closed captioning is available via a relay service upon specific request.

Below are the session descriptions.

Writing Your Federal Résumé (for Career Counselors)

Preparing a résumé for Federal jobs is unlike creating one for jobs in the private and nonprofit sectors.  To do so requires an understanding of the nuances of Federal hiring.  We invite you to join a representative of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management to learn strategies on developing and writing a Federal résumé.  By the end of this session, you will be able to help your students and alumni know the importance of the résumé in applying for Federal Jobs and why preparing a thorough résumé is the single best step they can take towards obtaining Federal Government employment; gain critical tips and guidelines for improving their résumé; and learn how to use the USAJOBS Résumé Builder to create a new résumé.
