Books to Use in the Adult Education Classroom to Spark Career Pathway Discussions

I am curious to hear from the field what books might be out there that you use in the adult education classroom that are easy and short reads for adults, allow you to build reading skills, and spark discussions about career pathways. Do any of your local one-stops offer job club or similar program that builds in books to read?

Many years ago, I was teaching an adult education class that had several dislocated workers trying to improve their reading skills to enter training and I had some learners that were also preparing for the GED Test and not sure what they were going to do once they passed the test. We read Who Moved My Cheese by Dr. Spencer Johnson and the discussions on change in the book helped the adults in the class start looking at various career options and the changes they might need to make to pursue some of those options.

It was a great book to practice reading skills such as: predicting, summarizing, symbolism, compare and contrast, and cause and effect.

As we continue to emerge from the isolation of the pandemic and help adults get back into the workforce, I am would love to hear what books are out there that might be good to use in our adult education classrooms to support reading skills and career pathway preparation.

Colleagues,
I want to share the list of great books on Amazon written by Sarah Goldammer https://www.amazon.com/Adventures-Grannys-Basement-Information-Technology/dp/B08BWFL1N4

They are focused on career exploration for adult education students.

Happy reading.
