National Career Development Association (NCDA) Conference Recap

I attended the NCDA 2024 conference in San Diego, CA and really got a lot out of the sessions I attended. I wanted to share my top three takeaways:

  1. Ken Meeker delivered an amazing presentation which examined the intersectionality of trauma and disabilities. He has a great blog and podcast that might be a source of comfort and inspiration for adult learners that may be living with a disability.
  2. CareerOneStop representatives were in the exhibitor area and I learned about their How to Guides which can be shared with adult learners electronically or printed.

How to find a job now (PDF)

    How to switch careers (PDF)

How to recover after a layoff (PDF)

    3. This year's conference focused on career navigation and mental health. The Career Convergence Web Magazine has an article titled Assessing a Company’s Commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging which might be a good article to read in class and have adult learner's evaluate the current places they work and future places of employment they are considering. Adult education programs might also want to evaluate their own organization and determine if there are certain areas in which they can improve.
