Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights Releases 2015 Overview of Disability-Related Guidance and Enforcement

The U.S. Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights has released its report to the President and Secretary of Education, entitled Delivering Justice.  The report includes data on disability-related complaints in K-12 and higher education for 2015.  

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 prohibits discrimination based on disability in any program or activity operated by recipients of federal funds, while Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) prohibits discrimination based on disability by public entities, regardless of whether they receive federal financial assistance. 

The report provides updates on policy guidance, technical assistance and enforcement of the legislation impacting learners across the age spectrum.
