31st Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Invisible Disability

July 26 marks the 31st anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). In recognition of the occasion, the Partnership on Inclusive Apprenticeship (PIA) has recently released a podcast on Invisible Disabilities and the Workplace.

In this podcast, Devin Boyle, Director of Communications for PIA, discusses the stigma around mental health, opens up about her own bipolar disorder and PTSD, and emphasizes the benefits of hiring apprentices and employees with mental health conditions and other invisible disabilities. Listen to the podcast and read the transcript on PIA’s website.

I invite members to listen to the podcast and share their thoughts about the ADA and invisible disabilities. What are the unique challenges to learning and earning with invisible disabilities?  How can we support adult learners in understanding their rights under the ADA, and accessing necessary accommodations?

I look forward to hearing your thoughts and perspectives!
