This month, I have been thinking a lot about financial literacy. I was at a meeting of nonprofits in my community earlier this week, and financial literacy was mentioned as something that community members need. As a curriculum designer, it is also a topic that fits into so many content areas: math, civic engagement, family life, professional life, re-entry after incarceration, etc.
I wanted to share the Teaching Skills That Matter curriculum because there is a series of lessons about financial literacy. I know that we've discussed project-based learning before on this discussion board, and there are lessons that are project-based as well. It is contextualized, and integrate skills that matter. The 9 skills that matter are:
- Adaptability & willingness to learn
- Communication
- Critical thinking
- Interpersonal skills
- Navigating systems
- Problem solving
- Processing & analyzing information
- Respecting differences & diversity
- Self-awareness
I'd like to get your feedback on which lesson you think would be most beneficial to the learners you work with and how you might adapt it for your specific class. Share in a reply!
