Increasing college preparedness and retention rates is an issue that affects Adult Basic Education (ABE) and Developmental Education (Dev Ed) programming.
From November 7-11, 9am-5pm (ET), the LINCS Postsecondary Completion Community of Practice will host a discussion -- Intensive Skill and College Readiness Programs at Community Colleges -- featuring experts from St. Louis Community College’s Academic Learning Academy and Gateway Community College’s Boot Camp. They will share the specifics of skill development, college and work readiness competency development, and career guidance. The goal is to help students become more prepared for college and increase retention.

This is the second of three discussions based on the U.S. Department of Education’s Supporting Student Success project, which studied successful strategies for reducing the amount of time adult learners spend in developmental education classes. To see what topics the first discussion delivered, check out Building Bridges between Adult Basic Education and Developmental Education, AND stay tuned for our next discussion in December: Re-Visioning Instruction and Support at Community Colleges to Support the Whole Student.
