Math and Science Adult Educators – Professional Development Opportunity

The OER STEM project, funded by OVAE, is offering a professional development opportunity to adult educators who teach math and science to basic or below postsecondary adult learners. Selected teachers will participate in a 6-month User Group beginning in October 2013 and ending in March 2014.  User Group members will participate in a series of webinars, identify and use math or science-specific open educational resources (OERs), evaluate a minimum of four OERs, and share those high-quality OERs, evaluations and feedback through two online portals (LINCS and OER Commons).

Learn more about this opportunity at: http://lincs.ed.gov/programs-files/oer/usergroup.pdf and then complete the application. The deadline for submitting applications is September 13, 2013.

Following are quotes from several of the current user group members, whose participation began in March and will end this month:

•             … this project has really opened up an exciting door to instructional resources.  My classroom…is a more fresh and relevant place to learn with these new OER gems!

•             It was a great experience; especially because I could use [OERs] with a class I teach where we do not have much access to technology.  Using my laptop and cell phone as a hot spot with a projector, students were able to view the videos and explore the interactive activities.

•             I have to admit that I was very skeptical about taking on this project because of my computer skills, but once I learned what to do I really enjoyed searching for OERs. I had no idea that so much information was available to enhance my lessons ... This forced me to search and locate a wealth of information which is so beneficial to my students and [me].

•             I have truly enjoyed this project. It has helped me, my program, and our students!
