Adult Citizenship Education – Teacher Competencies is only one week away.

From June 22-24, 2015, the Adult English Language Learners and Program Management groups will host special guests Paul Kim and Kelton Williams from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services’ (USCIS) Office of Citizenship in a lively discussion exploring teacher competencies for adult citizenship education programs.

Paul Kim is a Policy Analyst with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, Office of Citizenship, Division of Citizenship Education and Training. Prior to joining USCIS, he was the Director of Accountability for the New York Mayor’s Office of Adult Education. His work experience includes Peace Corps Slovakia, World Bank, Open Society Foundation, National Academy for Excellent Teaching, and International Baccalaureate. Paul received a BA in Economics from the University of Southern California, and he is a doctoral candidate in International Educational Development at Teachers College, Columbia University.

Kelton Williams is an Education Program Specialist with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, Office of Citizenship, Division of Citizenship Education and Training. Prior to joining USCIS, Kelton was an Assistant Professor of Educational Studies at Knox College in Galesburg, IL. His work experience includes teaching middle school and high school social studies in the Texas public schools. Kelton received a Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction from Texas A&M University, where he completed a dissertation on the history of civic education in American public schools. He also has a BA in Political Science from Emory & Henry College.
