Please join me in welcoming Heather Claussen Erwin and the subject matter expert for the Correctional Education Group! We are so pleased to introduce Heather to the LINCS Community.Heather Erwin is an Attorney, licensed to practice in the State of Iowa. She is the Prison Education Project Coordinator for the WiderNet Project, a service project based in the University of Iowa’s Graduate College of Library Science and Information. WiderNet’s Corrections Off-Line Education Platform (COEP) offers 30 million resources geared toward corrections education in an off-line, IntraNet format. The COEP system is currently in use in several Iowa Correctional Facilities and Community Corrections Client Services sites. Ms. Erwin has taught basic literacy and composition courses both on and off-line for Axia College, The Washington Literacy Council and the Hubbard Summer Law Program. She has worked with indigent, incarcerated and at-risk populations in the U.S. for Texas Impact, a faith-based lobbying organization, and StandDown Texas, a death penalty moratorium project, both in Austin, TX. She participated in the United Nations’ Working Group on the Rights of Indigenous Populations as part of the Indian Law Resources Center, and while interning at the King County D.A.'s Office in Brooklyn, NY, Ms. Erwin assisted in the implementation of the ground-breaking DETAP alternative sentencing, drug treatment program for non-violent offenders incarcerated in the state of New York.Welcome, Heather!
