High Quality Lesson Plans Online

Hello Colleagues, I'm interested in the role of vocabulary in standards-based teaching. I'm convinced that teaching academic vocabulary explicitly and well is essential. In my cursory review of the CCRS, I noted that vocabulary is mentioned in the following standards:

•Reading 1.C
•Reading 4.A, B, C, D
•Language 4.A, B, C, D
•Language 5.A, B, C
•Language 6.A, B, C, D

There is a high quality set of lesson plans and materials available online through SERP (Strategic Education Research Partnership) Word Generation that focuses on teaching academic vocabulary in the context of high interest social studies and science content. These are K12 materials designed for use in grades 6-8, but most would be extremely relevant to adult learners. Teachers can register to access the full set of lesson plans at wordgen@serpinstitute.org.

Check out some of these lesson materials and let us know what you think of their potential usefulness with adult learners. What are your thoughts about  the way academic vocabulary is presented in these lessons?
