Elitism-the attitude or behavior of a person or group who regard themselves as belonging to an elite

The teacher that stood out to me in the book was the teacher that Boaler was talking about that failed 70% of their students every year.  He did not see the students' failure as a reflection on his teaching; he saw it as a reflection on the students who he did not believe had the gift.  Schools that have the gifted and talented program and AP classes show the elitism mentality.  Schools that offer grouping with students of all ability are more successful with the student body as a whole.  Through the reading and know what really works for all students when grouping of students is used the whole group becomes more successful.  The higher level students learn a lot more from teaching and the lower level students develop a lot more confidence in themselves.
