New English language proficiency (ELP) Standards E-Trainings

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce two new e-trainings designed to help you implement English language proficiency (ELP) standards and academic content standards for adult English Language Learners (ELLs). The addition of these trainings (Modules Two and Three) marks the completion of a three-part professional development series. (Module One was launched in January.) All three trainings are now posted on LINCS at: https://lincs.ed.gov/state-resources/federal-initiatives/elp-standards.

Module One introduced the ELP Standards. It explains the make-up of the standards and how they are organized and relate to academic content standards. Modules Two and Three present a four-step Task Analysis Process that examines instructional tasks/activities in relation to content demands, thinking skills, and language use. Taken together the three learning courses will help you use the ELP Standards as a basis for supporting ELLs’ academic content-learning and English language development.

We hope you find these new resources to be most helpful in providing high-quality programs of instruction for ELLs. Please share this information broadly.

Thanks,
The LINCS Team
