New NETP Update and Supplement

The U.S. Department of Education, Office of Education Technology, updated the 2016 National Education Technology Plan (NETP) in January 2017 when it published “Reimagining the Role of Technology in Education: 2017 National Education Technology Plan Update.” The update builds on the 2016 NETP and helps set a national vision and plan for learning enabled by technology. The update’s chapters also focus on learning, teaching, leadership, assessment, and infrastructure, and each includes recommendations for stakeholders across the education field. It is worth reading it its entirety, but, for those short on time, all the recommendations are available beginning on page 88.

Additionally, “Reimagining the Role of Technology in Higher Education,” a supplement to the 2016 NETP, was also published in January of this year. It aligns the role of technology with the needs of serving diverse student groups seeking access to high-quality postsecondary learning experiences. The supplement examines the five core sections that were highlighted in the recent NETP – learning, teaching, leadership, assessment, and infrastructure – and also aligns them with themes of lifelong learning, equity, and accessibility. Enjoy!
