OCTAE - Correctional Education Position Available

The Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education (OCTAE), Division of Adult Education and Literacy (DAEL), Office of Correctional Education (OCE) in the U.S. Department of Education has announced a GS-301-13 Program Specialist position. The Division of Adult Education and Literacy plays a key national-level role in driving the agenda for adult education and literacy, including corrections education. The Office of Correctional Education provides national leadership on issues and programs in correctional education to State agencies and local correctional institutions. OCE also administers contract and grant programs. As such, the incumbent will perform a variety of program-related duties directed toward improving American correctional education.

The Specialist serves as an agency expert on corrections education including re-entry initiatives for youth and adults; and, provides authoritative advice and consultation to ED officials and customers on corrections education and re-entry initiatives.

The applicant is expected to possess, and will be required to address the following knowledge, experience, and ability areas: 1) knowledge of state or Federal corrections education-related policy making processes and procedures; experience analyzing legislation and policy documents; experience writing for a policy making audience; experience managing formula or discretionary grants at the Federal or state level; and, the ability to communicate both verbally and in written format and represent education programs in interagency and public venues.
