Upcoming USCIS Event – Adult Citizenship Education – Teacher Competencies

Event Title: Adult Citizenship Education – Teacher Competencies

Event Type: Online Discussion in the LINCS Community

Date(s): June 22-24, 2015

Greetings, Community Members!

LINCS has a wonderful summer lined up and we’re kicking it off with an online guest discussion hosted in partnership with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services’ (USCIS) Office of Citizenship.

From June 22-24, 2015, special guests Paul Kim and Kelton Williams from USCIS will engage in an informative, large-group discussion on teacher competencies for adult citizenship education programs. With the goal of helping participants prepare adult English Language Learners for naturalization interviews and tests, this event will be of particular interest to teachers of citizenship and civics, those helping eligible Lawful Permanent Residents prepare for the naturalization interview and test, adult ESL teachers, and program administrators.

Additionally, some of the subtopics to be discussed include:

  • Comparisons between adult citizenship and ESL teacher competencies,
  • How to organize competencies into a framework, and
  • Using teacher competencies for improving instruction.

The USCIS team invites you to share your thoughts and experiences in the Adult English Language Learners and Program Management groups. If you are not already a member of one of these groups, please join in order to participate in the conversation. Also, be sure to connect with us on Twitter (@LINCS_ED and @USCIS); this is sure to be an event you will not want to miss!

Best regards,

The LINCS Community Team
