I am attending and presenting at the 2014 COABE PAACE Conference in Pittsburgh this week (March 15 - 19).

2014 COABE PAACE Conference was another successful conference that showcased innovations and promising practices in our field and especially in transitions to college. You can find some of the presentations below, the links will take you to COABE's website where you can download the presentation, handouts and also find out more information about the presenters. I will continue to add to this discussion thread as the conference organizers post more resources. 

Setting Up Students for Success in Higher Education - Participants will learn the differences between high school accommodations and what they can expect in a college setting. Participants will learn the importance of self-advocacy skills and experience an interactive lesson taught by a college instructor. LINK

Meta-What? Helping Adult Learners Think About Thinking - Metacognition means thinking about thinking. Being able to think about one’s thinking is an important part of learning success. In this session, we will discuss principles of metacognition and explore practices to help adult learners think about their learning process. LINK

A Community Effort: Kirkwood Pathways for Adult Career Education and Employment (KPACE) - Kirkwood Community College, in partnership with United Way of East Central Iowa, community-based organizations, and area employers, is developing a unique pathway program. In this session, discover how multiple entities collaborate to achieve student success. LINK

Gateway to College and Careers: Guiding Adult Education Students on the Road to Success - Waubonsee Community College has developed and implemented a new GED Enhanced course that will prepare adult education students for college-level courses by embedding college success skills with traditional math and language arts instruction. This presentation will share the model for a continuous improvement process that focuses on collaboration. LINK

WorkINdiana—The Essential First Step on a Career Pathway for Adult Education Students - This session will provide an overview of the cohesive implementation of adult education and occupational skills training in Indiana. As part of the presentation, participants will learn how Indiana developed its WorkINdiana program to complement both the secondary career and technical education career pathways and the community college system, implemented it on a state-wide basis while allowing for regional inflection, and how actual practitioners implemented the program at the local level. Presenters also will describe funding sources, curriculum development, outcomes, and program sustainability. LINK
