COABE Sharing -- What were your key takeaways?

Dear Professional Development Colleagues,

It was terrific seeing many of you in Denver last week at the COABE Conference! I love the networking opportunities and seeing many of you in person. I learn a lot from you all so thank you for sharing your work and expertise.

As we’ve discussed previously, the EBPD Community is a place where we can share what we’ve learned or resources we’ve gained as a result of participating or presenting in PD. In this way, those of us who could not attend the sessions that you did can benefit from your learning experiences. Plus some of us like living vicariously!

If you attended or presented at COABE, please tell us your thoughts on one or more of the following questions:

  • What were some of the key takeaways for you at COABE?
  • Which session(s) did you enjoy the most or gain the most from?
  • Which sessions inspired you and why?
  • What are some resources you look forward to using or exploring that you learned about at COABE?
  • If you presented, what tips or advice do you have for other presenters who plan to present at COABE or elsewhere in the future?
  • In what ways did you use the conference App? What potential do you see for follow up using the App?

I look forward to hearing from you,

Jackie Taylor

Dear PD Colleagues,

I know everyone is busy, but please don't let this opportunity slip by us to share what we've learned from COABE. This is our unique space to help advance our field of practice in adult literacy professional development.

I'm on the edge of my seat to hear COABE attendees' takeaways from the conference, because I perceived a real trend toward upbeat and energetic attitudes - much more so than in recent years past.  It could be that I was giving away CCR Roadmaps to the hundreds of people that I spoke with (and who doesn't like free stuff?).  Those College and Career Readiness Standards, however, do seem to provide a new direction and raised expectations that many in adult ed feel are worth striving for.  So, I expect that the most popular sessions were the ones that helped chart a path to reach the CCR level with classroom and blended instruction.  So, I'm definitely curious about the specific nuggets that educators took home and intend to implement.

Cheers,
