MOBILE FIRST LMS Systems & Best practices for Cellphone First Education

Dear colleagues:
I am excited to share that through a new California state innovation grant, I will be working with SEIU and other unions in California on researching & piloting mobile first learning with their members (primarily low-wage immigrant service workers). By MOBILE FIRST I mean using cellphones (both smart & simple) to reach and train adults who cannot come to class- or perhaps could come only once for an orientation (as opposed to BLENDED mobile learning for students enrolled in regular classes).  But certainly there are best-practices shared in both!

The project is "Mobile Up: English, Career Education & Coaching by Cellphone", and it is to support union/employer training funds to:
- research, prototype and test best practices in MOBILE FIRST ESL instruction, vocational training, & career coaching for workers in their particular industry sectors
- identify and share best practices & lessons learned

I am already starting work in partnership with union training fund staff, edtech colleagues at OTAN and World Education, and others to research and compare the cost and functionality of different mobile first LMS options so we can decide which to pilot. We've already started a chart comparing the pros and cons and costs of many (Mindflash, Edmodo, Schoology, Cell-Ed etc).

I'd like to invite others to join our research and share best practices on mobile learning, etc. You can contact me at: aawebber@gmail.com
