Reading habits and text presentation: paper and on-line

Hi,

You may have seen the Washington Post article addressing changes in our reading habits. We might be approaching the reading task differently because for many of us our on-line reading has increased tremendously.

You can read the article offline: http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/serious-reading-takes-a-hit-from-online-scanning-and-skimming-researchers-say/2014/04/06/088028d2-b5d2-11e3-b899-20667de76985_story.html

Do you observe such changes in your students? How about your own reading habits in switching between a good, old book and what you might read on-line? Do you approach reading differently such as more skimming or scanning when you read on-line sources?

With the proliferation of e-readers and tablets, will we have to change our reading instruction for those less proficient readers?

Also, in addition to the article, maybe skim the Comments that were provided. Thoughtful observations in several of them with implications to our text choices and curricula.

Always good to have options, right?

Best,

Daryl
