Reading news articles online -- and on one's reading level

Colleagues,

Suppose your students could choose a news article to read -- and also choose the level of reading of difficulty. Newsela https://www.newsela.com/ allows students to do that, and for the basic services, for free. (Teachers who want to get access to the management information system pay $18 per student per year.) The levels are determined by lexiles, now a widely used way to level reading materials in K-12 education.

Have you used Newsela with your students? If so, do you think it is useful for adult new readers who are at a "third grade" reading level or higher? What are the opportunities and challenges you see in using Newsela?
