Using the PIACC Numeracy Framework to Guide Instruction

Hello All,

I found this commissioned paper from January 2017 that Donna Curry wrote about "Using the PIAAC Numeracy Framework to Guide Instruction: An Introduction for Adult Educators".   and wanted to share it with my community.  It is a call to answer for anyone in Adult Education, especially adult numeracy, who are ready to change how adult numeracy instruction happens in your sphere of influence.  If you are looking for some data-driven numbers to help you make those changes happen - this is the article is an asset.

In addition, page 31, give you a quick review of how to use the PIAAC elements in YOUR classroom:

  1. Start with PIACC's definition of numeracy
  2. Ask students how they use math in their lives
  3. Design learning activities based in real-life contexts
  4. Build in performance assessments
