Worker Safety Education: Where Does Adult Education Come In?

Does your program serve working adults?  If so, safety education should be part of the curriculum!

According to the U.S. Department of Labor's statistics, 4,821 workers were killed on the job in 2014.  That's more than 92 a week, or more than 13 deaths every day.  804 Hispanic or Latino workers were killed from work-related injuries in 2014—on average, more than 15 deaths a week or two Latino workers killed every single day of the year.

Join us for this week's webinar and panel discussion on worker safety in adult education.  Esteemed panelists will include representatives from the U.S. Department of Education's Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA), the Jane Addams Resource Corporation, and World Education.

This was a very informative webinar, with a clear presentation of the opportunities for grants to implement the OSHA programs, an example of a program in Chicago that incorporates adult literacy, OSHA training and career pathways, and a description of how occupational safety and health lessons, from the Change Agent, have been used in a workplace basic skills class at a hotel in Boston. I was able to download the presentation immediately, which I found very helpful; it has lots of links to resources  for funding and courses, and to the Change Agent lesson plan.  I wonder how those who could not attend the webinar could download the slide show, and how they could also eventually get a copy of the recorded webinar.
