College Students, Stress, the Pandemic, and Mental Health

Colleagues,

I would like to draw your attention to the following excerpts from The Chronicle of Higher Education College Students Have Been Stressed Out During the Pandemic. Here’s How It’s Affected Their Mental Health. by Audrey Williams.  I encourage you to review the whole article.

New research from the Healthy Minds Network and the American College Health Association shows that depression is one of those repercussions, with the rate of depression among students rising since the start of the pandemic.

Research further indicates that mental-health problems increase the likelihood of student attrition. For many, the pandemic has upended their finances, support systems, and other areas of concern. There is strong evidence that in addition to instruction, programs may wish to focus on support services for mental health.

I invite you to review the entire article and share your thoughts. How can we aid our students during this current crisis.

Sincerely,
Kathy Tracey
