Over the past couple of years, teachers have had to learn how to effectively teach remotely on a dime! Participants will learn about an effective model for training adult basic education instructors to teach online. The presenters, Kristi Reyes and Erica Duran from MiraCosta Community College in Oceanside, CA, will share their lessons learned and the modifications they made to adjust and improve their training. Many practical tips will be shared.

Presenters' Bios:

Erica Duran is an English instructor in MiraCosta College's Adult High School program. She has been teaching online and hybrid courses since 2008. She's completed distance education certificates and coursework through MiraCosta College and @ONE. When Erica isn't teaching, she has been busy writing and researching the intersections between STEM and first-year college writers. She published her first textbook with MacMillan in 2020 with her co-author Lauren Mecucci Springer, and had a chapter published in a second book with Routledge in 2022.

Kristi Reyes is an ESL instructor in MiraCosta College's noncredit program, located in north San Diego County. She is a trainer and facilitator for California's two adult education leadership projects, CALPRO and OTAN, and has online teaching certificates from TESOL International and @ONE. Among the many professional learning activities Kristi has been part of, over the past three years she has served as a coach for the national initiative Teaching Skills That Matter.
