What is a Refugee? Counter-Narrative Resources

Hello colleagues, During the recent wonderful live event with Suzanne McCurdy and Bayan Tawakalna, the presenters shared a valuable list of resources that we can all draw from to honor the learners we work with and support them to explore and promote their own identities.

Here is a link to that list of resources.

The Immigrant Stories site at the University of MN is especially compelling to me since it features many beautiful digital stories created by refugees. I love that teachers can engage learners in designing their own digital stories at this site. Having learners create their own digital stories has been one of my all time favorite instructional strategies.

You are invited to share your thoughts and questions about this important aspect of the work we do to support refugees to express their voices.  Please also feel free to tell us about how you have drawn from any of the resources on this list and to share any additional resources that you have found valuable.

I want to express my deep appreciation to Suzanne and Bayan for sharing so powerfully with all of us!

Cheers, Susan Finn Miller
