Bridging the Digital Divide

Hello Integrating Technology colleagues,

Leslie Baker, a new member of the Integrating Technology group, asked about ways to bridge the digital divide. As you may be aware, the COVID-19 pandemic has made it clear how many adults and families lack reliable, affordable home Internet access, and how many lack digital devices in their homes: computers, and other Internet accessible devices for adults and for school children.

Let's talk about that here. How is your program, school, library, and community addressing this problem? What resources have you found in your state or community such as:

  • discount hardware, software and access programs, especially for low-income families;
  • charitable or corporate foundation, individual donor and public funding for hardware;
  • computer loan programs;
  • free or discounted Internet access;
  • free wifi;
  • free digital skills training; and

perhaps other ways to bridge the divide?
