The Smartphone as a Tutor / Teacher's Aide

I believe that the Smartphone is greatly underestimated as a tutor or teacher's aide. A teacher can send texts, websites, videos and audios - and Homework - via the Smartphone. WhatsApp is a great Classroom, too!

I could go on and on, but let me tell you two anecdotes:

1. Four years ago I held a class in a library and had about 25 students, most of whom were working. In the classroom there were 10 computers and for 30 minutes the students studied pumarosa.

One of the students was a gardener and told me that he had recorded the Numbers lesson on his phone, which he then put in his pocket and listened to on his headphones while he cut the grass. He had memorized the numbers in English up to one million.

2. And once when I boarded a local bus I saw one of the students using her phone. As I passed her, I said "hello" and she looked up at me smiling and told me she was studying pumarosa on her phone!!

As I mentioned, this was four years ago. Now?!

Well now I use WhatsApp groups and send lessons from Google, videos, songs, and photos ....usually of something unusual, like a new haircut.

I encourage people to ask me questions and if by chance I cannot give a good answer, I go to Google!

The most popular "lessons" I send are stories, usually of my childhood adventures.

Well this is my story. I cannot imagine teaching English without a SmartPhone.

Do you use the SmartPhone as a teacher's aide or tutor?
