Hi. As we reflect on the Juneteenth Holiday I am mindful of the those in our justice systems that have been adversely impacted over the centuries. The importance of education and skill development hold one of the keys to helping those traveling through our justice systems and I wanted to specifically recognize those educators, administrators, and students, who are working hard to make change happen. Juneteenth is special to me because it reminds me of that "trap door" in the 13th Amendment, that if you're convicted of a crime then slavery continues. The penal system then was weaponized during Jim Crow and directed at minorities in particular. We still labor to overcome this dilemma. We believe that we can change what needs to be changed.
