What Causes Some Aurora To Appear In Discrete Lines?

This is  robust lesson written by Laura Hollister and published by Science Friday showcases the STEM practices  Analyzing and Interpreting Data, Developing and Using Models, and Engaging in Argument from Evidence.

The lesson opener is a Notice and Wonder activity wherein students are asked to take a moment to look at some images of different aurora and answer the following prompts: What do you notice? What do you wonder?

The lesson then continues exploring auroras by engaging student in the practice of modeling and analyzing real data to engage in argument from evidence.
