Hosted Discussion: Exploring the New LINCS Teaching Adults to Read Courses

Description: Wondering about best practice strategies for teaching adults to read? The recently updated LINCS Teaching Adults to Read courses explain reading strategy instruction for beginner, intermediate, and advanced adult readers. Throughout January, the LINCS Reading and Writing Group will conduct discussions highlighting both courses. Join the discussion at: https://community.lincs.ed.gov/group/25.

Live Session:  A Correctional & Reentry Education Year in Review "2021"

Description: Join the Correctional and Reentry Education group as we reflect on 2021’s impact on the field of adult education in correctional and reentry settings. We will explore the successes and the challenges of 2021 and consider how we can continue to improve educational systems for justice-involved individuals in 2022.

Description: January is National Mentoring Month! Join us in learning about The Right Turn Career-Focused Transition Initiative, a project working to provide career development and work-based learning experiences for young adults who have been justice system involved. Our conversation will highlight the project's use of mentoring as a tool for working with learners to develop skills and relationships supporting their education and employment goals.

Description: Join Dahlia Shaewitz of the Institute for Educational Leadership (IEL) to examine the current status of disability inclusion in Adult Education, identify strategies to create an inclusive classroom curriculum, and take a look at resources needed to support full inclusion of disabilities in learner contexts and materials.

Description: Join the Science group to discuss the 7 Elements for Highly Effective Remote/Blended/In-person Instruction through the lens of Science Instruction. We will reflect on how teaching practice changed during emergency remote instruction and how it informs our practice as we move back to hybrid and in-person instruction.

Live Session: Texas' Adult Ed Med Video Project: Come See What the Fuss is All About!

Description: Come follow five adult education students as they upskill their way through 40 short video lessons tackling subjects like Digital Literacy and English Language Proficiency, and applying for jobs at the Adult Ed Med Hospital! Presenters will review this State Leadership Initiative from inception through project design, implementation, and curriculum development as well as the challenges of filming during a pandemic. Takeaways include access to videos and resources, including lesson plans and student handouts.
